The Whole Hog
A whole pig weighs in at about 40-50kgs of meat. This usually works out between £280 and £350, though never more than £390. For this price you get all of the meat back from your pig, butchered, vacuum packed, weighed, labelled and priced ~ just how you would like to find it. In terms of price, you are paying about £100 more than in a supermarket, the same as in a good butchers, and £160 less than London prices. You are buying outdoor reared rare breed pork, which is fattened over a longer period, which gives the pork much more flavour!
Half a Hog
As of 1st February 2011, we are offering half pigs for adoption, for those who are overwhelmed by the whole hog! The adoption process is just the same as if you were adopting a whole pig, but you get half as much meat back at the end. The cost of adopting half a pig is around £175 - £200 (plus a small admin charge of £15). A £50 deposit is required at the start of the adoption, which is then deducted from the final amount payable, when the meat is collected.
We price the meat according to how it is butchered and its weight:
- Pork (all cuts) - £9/kilo
- Fillet - £4
- Minced pork - £3.20/lb
- Sausages - £4/lb for speciality. £3.70/lb for butchers
- Dry cured back bacon - £12/kilo
- Dry cured streaky bacon - £9.60/kilo
- Gammon (joints & steaks) £10.20/kilo
- Offal - Free of charge
