Salone del Gusto 2008

“From field to fork, from pasture to plate - tracking your food every step of the way”

Two years ago Yorkshire Meats won a government grant to travel to Italy and sell at Salone del Gusto. This year, they will return, but this time armed with their Speciality Sausages and a famous chef...

Salone del Gusto is an internationally renowned biennial exhibition attended by large numbers of food and wine enthusiasts. It is organized by the Piedmont Regional Authority, the City of Turin and the ‘Slow Food’ movement. It is the largest indoor food festival in the world.

It is a sixty-thousand square metre exhibition space filled with the very best produce and innovations in food from 200 countries. Producers are invited to attend and only a small number from each country pass the stringent criteria and go all the way to exhibiting at the world’s largest and most prestigious indoor food festival.

In 2006 while 170,000 ‘neo-gastronomes’ were strolling round the stands at the Lingotto exhibition centre (in Turin) or training and refining their palates at the Taste Workshops, Senegalese and Brazilian fisherfolk, shepherds from Abruzzo and nomads from Mongolia were discussing the future of their trades, exchanging solutions, ideas and prospects with an eye to food good from a gastronomic point of view, sustainable for the environment, and fair in terms of remuneration and social justice.

As the organisers say, ‘even this journey is just a stage on an even longer one through biodiversity, education and pleasure—but it’s a stage that no one can afford to miss’.

In October Yorkshire Meats will be (once again) travelling to the food festival. On the second day (24th October) we will be selling our cooked sausages and bacon on slices or organic bread to the discerning food public, and competing against some of the most celebrated food producers from around the globe.
