Yorkshire Meats and Adopt-a-pig is proud to be working with Thornhill Farm who produce top quality Dexter Beef. They are recommended by Rick Stein and Anthony Worral-Thompson and won the “Best Yorkshire Meat Producer 2006”.
Their breed, the Dexters, is the smallest of the traditional breeds of cattle. The little cow not only produces top quality beef, but also rich creamy milk. Thornhill has one of the largest herds in the North of England and produces show stock also.
All the cattle are reared traditionally, with the calves staying with their mothers for several months. They are fed on grass, hay and haylage. All carcasses are hung for 3 weeks at the local abattoir producing a wonderful dark colour and marbled meat, making it deliciously succulent.
